We have passed the half-way point of the school year and are preparing to celebrate the 100th day of school! February is sure to be a fast month, full of fun! The Middle School students have enjoyed The Witch’s Gold Scavenger Hunt this week. Riddles and rhymes have had the students searching for gold coins at all times!
The Great Kindness Challenge was the last full week in January. This is year 7 that BCS has participated in this week full of kindness! Many classrooms participated by reading stories about kindness, writing kind letters, or participating in random acts of kindness around our school. Admin read “A Little Spot of Kindness” to Kindergartners during an assembly and each student took a copy home. We also had staff nominate students for kindness awards- many students were surprised to be called to the office for an award!
On February 5th the University of Maine Men’s Basketball team came to read with Third graders. Students enjoyed meeting athletes and reading. We want to thank the Men’s basketball team for donating 200 tickets to the February 8th game. Many lucky students and families were provided tickets to this special game to cheer on the Black Bears and celebrate/encourage a love of reading. GO BLACK BEARS!
LEGO LEGENDS TEAM #32423 STATE CHAMPIONS!
The middle school robotics team, Lego Legends, competed against 30 teams from across the State last Saturday in Farmington and won. The team is made up of eight talented students from 3rd to 7th grade from Brewer and Bangor. This win earns the team an invitation to the National Championship in Houston, Texas. Congratulations to the TEAM!

Safety Updates
We continue to improve our emergency preparedness by practicing standard response protocols. Recently we rehearsed an emergency occurring in the cafeteria with the 7th and 8th grade students. At the same time, the rest of the building completed a lockdown rehearsal in the classrooms. Several police officers assisted staff during the rehearsals and everything went very well. If you have any questions please contact SRO Willey at ewilley@breweredu.org .
Reminder to go slow in the parking lots, and student drop off/pick up areas. Give school buses plenty of space, and let your children out of the vehicle on the curb where it is safe. Please do not drop students prior to 7:30 for middle school and 8:10 for elementary, as there is not supervision prior to that time.
Please continue to send students to school prepared for cold weather; we go outside as long as the “feels like” temperature is 10 degrees or more.
Just a reminder that we do not allow students to have energy drinks at BCS. These drinks go against our health and wellness policy and are proven to be very unhealthy for our youth/teens. Thank you for your help with this!
