Happy New Year! 2025 has brought the cold winter temperatures. Reminder that we will have outside recess based on a “feels like” temperature of at least 10 degrees. Please send students dressed for the cold weather with hats, mittens, and winter jackets.
Brewer Community School started the new year with many wonderful visitors and guest speakers. Versant Power’s Safety Education Specialist, Angela Priest, came to speak with our 4th grade students.
On Tuesday, January 7th, players from the University of Maine Women's Basketball team came to visit. Some of the players participated in a 4th grade PE class with Mrs. Ross. Mrs. Ross played basketball at UMAINE during her 4 years as a student. Other UMAINE players read to students in 1st and 2nd grade classes. All the 1st and 2nd Grade classes have now had an opportunity to visit with the Women’s Basketball team. Our BCS students’ loved this experience and asked some great questions of the players. We hope to keep a connection with the team and our school.
Also, on Wednesday, January 8th, 2nd Grade classes enjoyed a visit from Bri and Kaya Lolar for Wabanaki Presentations!
Brewer Community School Drama Club presents~Pia the Piper by Jennifer Heale
Performed by 5th and 6th graders on January 15th, showtimes at 5pm and 7pm. Tickets $3 for students and $5 for adults.
Synopsis: Pia does not enjoy playing her pipe, yet every day her mother makes her go to her grandmother’s house to practice. Pia’s father was a musician, so her mother is sure Pia must have a natural inclination for music, right? Wrong! Luckily Grandmother is hard of hearing because, despite hours of practice, Pia truly is a terrible pipe player! Meanwhile, a labor dispute among the village’s sanitation workers has brought all garbage pickup to a halt. The rats have never been happier! With a rat infestation in the village, the mayor realizes that Pia’s “talent” for making terrible music could come in handy. Perhaps bad music can be put to good use and Pia can become a famous musician after all!
